With the new school year approaching, we wanted to reach out and let you know that the Port Angeles School District has been hard at work ironing out the details on our return to school plan.

Dear PASD Staff and Families,

We hope this message finds you doing well and enjoying your summer. With the new school year approaching, we wanted to reach out and let you know that the Port Angeles School District has been hard at work ironing out the details on our return to school plan.  This message highlights what we know now, how you can help, and what to expect come September. Our schools will be open for every family that wants a full-time in-person learning experience. In addition to in-person learning, Seaview Academy is our District's primary learning program for a flexible and remote experience for those families that choose an alternative option.

Last week, Governor Inslee announced the extension of the face-covering requirement for all staff and students working in educational facilities where students are present. All staff and students must continue to wear face coverings/masks, regardless of vaccination status. We understand this may cause frustration for some families, but we must follow the legal requirement intended to protect our children. Please note that the masking decision is not a choice left to local school boards. Masking in schools is mandated by public health officers and the Governor's legal authority during this public health emergency.

Vaccinations and masks are the most effective tools to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Under direction and guidance from the Washington Department of Health (DOH), two primary goals for the return to school in the fall are:

  1. Minimize transmission of COVID-19 among students and staff in K-12 schools and to their families and the broader community.
  2. Maximize in-person instruction.

To support our students, families, and staff, we will follow these mandatory Covid mitigation strategies:

  1. Require face coverings for the foreseeable future.
  2. Maintain our commitment to cleaning and disinfecting daily.
  3. Promote handwashing, good ventilation, and indoor air quality.
  4. Respond to potential Covid cases and report to the Department of Health.

In addition to mandatory mitigation strategies, we will maintain a physical distance of three feet or more between students in the classroom settings to the degree possible and reasonable that allows for full-time, in-person learning for all students.

How can you help?

Get Vaccinated

CDC recommends everyone 12 years and older get a COVID-19 vaccine to help protect against COVID-19. Get vaccinated as soon as you can. Getting vaccinated prevents severe illness, hospitalizations, and death. Unvaccinated people are encouraged to get vaccinated and continue masking until they are fully vaccinated. With the Delta variant, this is more urgent than ever. CDC has updated guidance for fully vaccinated people based on new evidence on the Delta variant. There is no state requirement for COVID vaccines or routine testing of school district employees or students to attend school.

In Partnership with the Clallam County Health Department, we will host a Vaccination Clinic for everyone age 12 and up during our Back to School Fair at Lincoln Center (905 W 9th St) on Saturday, August 21st. Join us from 10am to 1pm—no need for an appointment.

Stay Home When Sick

Staying home when sick with COVID-19 is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of schools and prevent spread to others. Students and school employees who have infectious illness symptoms, such as influenza (flu) or COVID-19, should stay home and seek medical evaluation, including testing for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. Please note, daily attestations are no longer required.

Travel and Quarantine (Updated 9/27/21)

There are no travel quarantine requirements for students staff.

Foxes' primary focus is to provide children time in nature to build meaningful relationships with the natural world. It is designed for young adventurers starting on their journey through school and life. They will play nature games, focus on nature-inspired projects, look under rocks, identify tracks in the mud, drink warm tea with snacks, and climb trees. The program will take place at Peninsula College on Tuesdays from 2:30pm - 5pm.
