School Safety Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

Port Angeles School District is adopting the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation. Used by schools and first responders across the country, SRP provides clear, consistent language for responding to a variety of safety situations.

Families may begin hearing these five terms in school safety drills and District communications:

Hold

Hold
Stay in your room or area; hallways remain clear.

Secure

Secure
Get inside; outside doors are locked due to a concern outside the building.

Lockdown

Lockdown
Locks, lights, out of sight due to a threat inside or immediately affecting the building.

Evacuate

Evacuate
Move to an announced location.

Shelter

Shelter
Follow specific safety procedures for weather, hazardous materials, or other environmental concerns.

Students and staff will practice these responses in age-appropriate ways throughout the school year. During an actual incident, PASD will use these same terms when communicating with families so you can quickly understand what action is taking place.
