Science
Port Angeles School District Curriculum
Background Information
The district’s Science Curriculum Committee continues to be steadfast in the belief that: 1) science education is set in a standards-based instructional environment; 2) the district must develop and maintain coherence across the district; and 3) equity for all students and teachers in the district is vertical and horizontal priority.
Washington State Guidelines
To ensure student achievement in science, it is critical that the curriculum, instruction, and assessment align. Washington State’s Essential Academic Learning Requirements, including the Grade Level Expectations, provide the foundation for the school district’s curriculum.
The Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) outline the learning standards for grades K-10 at three benchmark levels: elementary, middle and high school.
The Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) provide detail about what students should know and be able to do by grade level.
