Language Arts Curriculum Grades K-3

Background Information

The Language Arts Curriculum Committee continues to support several recommendations at the elementary level. For grades K-2, the continued use of the Lucy Calkins Writing Materials in a number of primary level classrooms across the district has been found to be a great resource for improvement of student writing and motivation to write. It appears that these materials are yielding higher quality student writing than previously used materials and strategies. An integral aspect of these recommendations is that each grade level builds on the strategies mastered at the grade level preceding it.
