SMS Music
Choir
Teacher: Mrs. Hendry
Choir is, of course, for the singers at Stevens. The class
normally consists of singing all sorts of songs, with some education about music
in general. Taught by Mrs. Hendry, there is a light, but serious, attitude in
the classroom. Choir takes place in the music building, next to the gym.

Orchestra
Teacher: Mr. Jones
If you play a stringed instrument, orchestra is for you.
Like choir, orchestra plays a wide variety of music, with some interesting
lectures from the teacher, Mr. Jones, on various topics. It is, however,
virtually impossible to start playing a stringed instrument by the time you
reach 7th or 8th grade, unless you’ve had past training.

Band
Teacher: Mr. Donohue
Band is the domain of brass and woodwind instruments.
Normally, band gets going very fast at the beginning of the year. One can start
taking band in 6th grade. By description of most band students, Mr.
Donohue is an amazing teacher.

Jazz Band
Teacher: Mr. Donohue
Jazz Band is Band for more advanced students in 8th
grade only. Mr. Donohue also teaches Jazz Band. Every year, the Jazz Band
performs at the Juan De Fuca Festival of the Arts and the Festival of Trees.
Auditions for Jazz Band are at the end of your 7th grade year.
