Earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement

Beginning with the class of 2008, students graduating from public high schools in Washington must earn the Certificate of Academic Achievement by demonstrating achievement of the 10thgrade reading, writing and math standards on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) by the end of high school. Science will be added to the certificate’s requirements for the class of 2010. The certificate helps ensure that all students – not just the college bound – have the basic skills needed to succeed after high school, regardless of where their families live, how much money they have, or what language they speak.

Complete a culminating project

This integrated learning project helps students understand the connection between school and the real world by studying a topic they like and presenting their findings to teachers, community members and other students.

Craft a high school and beyond plan

Students must detail their plan for meeting the high school graduation requirements and what they expect to do the year after graduation.
