PAEF’s Annual “Celebrate Education” Dinner on March 9, 2018Lt. General Robert Otto, USAF (Ret.), to be Featured Speaker at Port Angeles Education Foundation’s Annual ‘Celebrate Education’ Dinner March 9

The Port Angeles Education Foundation (PAEF) is proud to present Lt. General Robert P. “Bob” Otto, U.S. Air Force (Retired) as the featured speaker at its annual ‘Celebrate Education’ dinner on Friday, March 9 in Port Angeles.

A Port Angeles High School graduate, General Otto began his 34-year career with the United States Air Force after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1982.  At the time of his retirement in December 2016, he was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

“We are honored to welcome General Otto as our speaker at this year’s Celebrate Education event,” said Bill Kindler, Port Angeles Education Foundation president. “His dedicated career of service began in the Port Angeles public schools, and certainly gives us reason to both celébrate and recommit ourselves to our schools.

The twenty-seventh annual Celebrate Education dinner will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 North Lincoln in Port Angeles.  Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m.; dinner follows at 6:30 p.m. Dinner tickets cost $75 and include appetizers during the social hour and a five-course dinner.  Reservations and entree choices may be made online at www.portangeleseducationfoundation.org or by calling PAEF at 360-452-8848.

The evening will also include music by the award-winning Port Angeles High School Jazz Band and presentation of PAEF’s annual Distinguished Service Award, which honors a school volunteer whose service and dedication have particularly enhanced education in Port Angeles.

The dinner traditionally concludes with Pass the Hat, an opportunity to support the PAEF’s school and teacher grant program, which recognizes innovation and collaboration within the school district. Each dinner guest is invited to sponsor the 2018-19 School and Teacher grants that will be awarded this fall. The Celebrate Education dinner is the major fundraiser for these awards.

This school year, grants totaling $40,000 were awarded to 32 projects providing remediation/tutoring, enhancement/enrichment, or completion of graduation requirements.
