Port Angeles Symphony Presents 80th Season Opening – You Are Invited!

September 11, 2012

Port Angeles, Wash. - Mark Wendeborn, executive director of the Port Angeles Symphony, has announced the orchestra is preparing for its 80th season opening with a family-friendly concert on September 22 featuring the Magic Circle Mime Co., 7:00 p.m. at the Port Angeles High School Auditorium, 304 East Park Avenue.

“It will be especially appealing and interesting to young people,” he says, “and will introduce them in creative ways to the orchestra.”

The symphony’s media release notes “Conductor Adam Stern plans to lead the orchestra in a concert of popular orchestral music, however, he and the symphony find their performance hampered somewhat by two members of the audience.  These unanticipated colleagues change the whole course of the events, and their efforts help the audience learn about the music, the orchestra, and the oh-so-important art of listening. Some of the music featured in this concert includes Britten’s ‘Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,’ Mozart’s ‘Symphony No. 39,’ Bernstein’s ‘Overture’ from Candide, selections from Tchaikovsky’s ‘Nutcracker,’ and Bizet’s ‘Carmen,’ as well as Brahms’ ‘Academic Festival Overture.’”

Tickets for everyone 16 years and under are only $5 (in all seating areas); over 16, reserved seats are $15 and $20; general admission is $10.  Tickets can be purchased at Port Book and News in Port Angeles, Sequim Village Glass of Carlsborg, and The Good Book/Joyful Nose Music Center in Sequim; online at http://www.portangelessymphony.org/ or at the door.
