"Stuff the Bus" Events to Collect School Supplies Planned

Port Angeles, Wash. - Port Angeles community organizations are joining together to host the annual Back to School Event for Port Angeles families in need on Saturday, August 18, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Jefferson Elementary, 218 East Twelfth Street.
KONP will host a telethon on Tuesday, July 24 – all day – stop by and help us “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies for the Back to School event!
Our yellow bus will be parked again at Walmart on Saturday, July 28, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to receive donations. Stop by and tour the yellow bus or to make a donation!
Thanks to Fashion Bug for sponsoring “Fill the Bus” July 21 - a great start to our summer school supplies collection efforts!
School supplies will be provided free to students in need at the August 18 Back to School event - kindergarten through twelfth grades – as well as haircuts, immunizations, community services resources, and back to school information. The SmileMobile program will accept reservations for September appointments.
Local groups and individuals are already collecting donations and school supplies for distribution at the event to prepare students for the very first day of school. Drop off locations include: First Federal Savings & Loan Port Angeles Branches, Sterling Bank and US Bank.
Lutheran Community Services NW, Serenity House, Port Angeles School District, Pupil Transportation Center, Sodexo Food Services, United Way of Clallam County, Rotary Club of Port Angeles, Kiwanis Olympic, Walmart Vision Center, SmileMobile, Clallam County Health & Human Services, Soroptimist International of Port Angeles – Jet Set, Burt and Ralene Walls, and the Port Angeles Education Foundation are already on board to support the Back to School event.
KONP Radio, First Federal Savings & Loan, Sterling Savings Bank, US Bank, Columbia Bank, Westport, ACTI, Port Angeles Hardwood, Nippon Paper Industries, Lakeside Industries, Interfor Pacific, Coldwell Banker, Fashion Bug, Port Angeles Farmers Market and WSU Clallam County Extension are also sponsors.
The 2011 Back to School Event drew over 200 families and served 750 students.
