All-City Spelling Bee Held at City Hall

Port Angeles, Wash. – Thirty-three students from Port Angeles elementary schools, including Franklin, Jefferson, Dry Creek, Hamilton, Roosevelt, Queen of Angels and Olympic Christian Schools, participated in the city-wide bee on Tuesday, May 22 at Port Angeles City Hall Council Chambers.

Michael Roggenbuck, fifth grade student at Roosevelt Elementary, placed first in the annual bee by spelling the word "recyclable" correctly.

Kimberly Cano, sixth grader at Hamilton Elementary was second; and Linus Waddell, a fifth grade Dry Creek student, was third. 

Each of the top three winners received a trophy and book bags filled with prizes donated by the Friends of the North Olympic Library System.

The finalists – fourth, fifth and sixth graders – won the “spell downs” in their respective class bees, and advanced to the city-wide bee.
