PAHS Senior Strings Student Wins National AwardJames Ray, Port Angeles High School’s orchestra teacher, shared the good news that violist Lauren Waldron, a senior in the orchestra program, learned just yesterday that she is the national first-prize winner of the Wendell Irish Viola Award, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs. She is also the winner for the Western Region.

Selection for the award is based upon a recorded audition. Auditions are first screened at the state level, and the winning recording from each state is then forwarded on to a national panel.

“This is truly an outstanding accomplishment for Lauren and yet another example of what our Port Angeles students are capable of,” Dr. Ray said.
