Morning Grandparents Visit: A great way to start the day! Grandparents came to Franklin to see their grandchildren and spend the first part of the morning chatting, getting refreshments and feeling proud. We are fortunate to have such a strong community within our school. Thank you to all who attended and made the morning special.

Duct Tape/Holiday Attire Spirit Day: What a way to kick off the last day of school before Winter Break! Students and staff either dressed in duct tape stylized outfits or various Christmas-themed outfits. Our secretaries and principal were just a few pictured below that helped make the day exciting and memorable, along with our sing-along at the end of the day with a special staff dance.

1st Trimester Recognition Assemblies: One way we recognize our students and their amazing efforts is through grade level recognition assemblies each trimester. Crazy Hair Spirit Day: Students and staff with whacky hair were seen around the school honoring our themed Spirit Day--Crazy Hair Day!

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon: Our PTA helped bring creative theatre to our stage. Book-It Repertory Theatre performed the Newberry Honor Book Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. The actors captivated our attention for almost an hour with their fine talents and simple yet convincing stage props. The beating of the ancient drum helped build suspense in the crowd. Thank you, Franklin PTA, for providing us with this entertaining gift.

Fourth Graders Get Civics Lesson from Representative Van De Wege: State Representative Kevin Van De Wege visited with Franklin Elementary fourth grade students in teacher Barry Burnett’s classroom during lunchtime on Monday. Students were treated to a civics lesson from Van De Wege. He talked about the different levels of government from the local level to national – led by City of Port Angeles Mayor Dan Di Guilio to President Barack Obama. Discussion and questions ranged from who makes the laws to the present economy – all subject areas the students will focus on this year as part of their social studies curriculum.

Veteran's Day Assembly: Veterans from near and far were honored with our assembly through song, poetry, historical stories, and listening to Mr. Grier play taps on his trumpet.

Student Council Elections: 6th graders put their heart and soul into speeches in order to convince their student body why they should be the president, vice-president, treasurer, photographer, and secretary.

Adventure Run and Read-a-thon Fundraiser: Students look forward to this event each year. A great kick-off to our year at Franklin with volunteers helping make the event run smoothly. Peninsula College soccer team members volunteered as well to run some of the stations. A family BBQ helped finish off the exciting fundraiser.

Wicked Racing Visit: Along with other competing teams of racers and their sprint boats, Wicked Racing helped kick off an incredible National Championship weekend racing event. Up close and personal, they inspired our students and staff alike!

Rider Readers: Port Angeles High School Roughrider Cheer and Football teams spent time in Port Angeles elementary schools on Thursday reading to students and answering questions about football and high school as part of its Rider Readers program.
