Dashiell Receives WSPRA AwardsWSPRA is a professional organization that works to promote communication in public school districts across Washington.

In the category of Print Newsletter & Mailer, Dashiell received an Award of Merit for the Port Angeles School District Summer 2018 and Winter 2019 Visions community newsletters.

“The Summer 2018 publication was a celebration of graduation and other culminating events of the 2017-18 school year,” said Dashiell.  “We also had a leadership change, with one superintendent retiring and a new superintendent coming on board.”

“Our Winter 2019 publication invited the community to meet our new superintendent and learn more about the district through scheduled events,” continued Dashiell.  “The newsletter highlights good things taking place in PASD schools.  This is our report to the Port Angeles community.”

In the category of Communications, PR or Marketing Campaign, Dashiell received an Honorable Mention for a story and photos of Geoffrey Redick of KNKX Radio Station in Tacoma interviewing instructor Jamie Valadez and the Klallam Language class she teaches at Port Angeles High School.  Redick’s interview, an episode of NPR’s All Things Considered, was aired on KNKX on June 8, 2018.  This podcast is available to listen to at https://www.knkx.org/post/klallam-language-classes-taught-port-angeles-high-school.

Dashiell’s coverage and photos from the story was featured on Our Kids, Our Future, a website highlighting education stories around Washington State on June 14, 2018. The Our Kids, Our Future campaign was begun by a group of Washington education organizations. The goal is to highlight excellence in Washington State public schools.  Our Kids, Our Future can be viewed at https://www.ourkidswa.com. 

“Our partnership with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe is a very important element of our school district,” said Dashiell.  “I am always excited to find interesting ways to tell our students’ stories.”

Entries from numerous districts from across the state were judged by a panel of communications professionals using a rubric designed for each specific category.  Top submissions were ranked (in order) Award of Excellence, Award of Merit and Honorable Mention, with one selected at Best in Category.  WSPRA awards recognition in two divisions:  school districts with more than 10,000 students and school district with fewer than 10,000 students.
