Stevens Middle School TSA Students Bound for NationalsTwo Stevens Middle School Technology Student Association (TSA) students recently qualified for national competition, according to Tim Winn, Stevens Middle School shop teacher and TSA faculty advisor.

TSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization.  The Technology Student Association enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), whereby members apply and integrate these concepts through extracurricular activities, competitions, and related programs.

TSA, comprised of seventh grade students, meets during “zero hour” each day at Stevens Middle School.

“We currently have eight official members,” said Winn.  “It would be great to have more, say, around twelve students.”

The competition was held in SeaTac and was attended by over a thousand students from across the state.

Seventh graders Abby Frank and Andrew Haas took first place in the category of Medical Technology.

Their project, classified as a new medical technology challenge, was a portable dialysis machine that enables a dialysis patient to easily wear it, transport it and even receive treatment on the go.

“Both students are interested in pursuing a medical career,” said Winn.

National competition will be held in Atlanta in June, just after school lets out.

“When you give the kids these opportunities to do these things, it’s amazing who steps up and shines,” said Winn.
