PAHS students spoke before House Capital Budget Committee in Olympia on Presidents DayPort Angles High School students Ali Baccus, Hollund Bailey, Abby Sanders and Hailey Robinson, along with School Board Director Cindy Kelly and PAHS teacher Pam Helpenstell, traveled to Olympia on Monday, February 19 to testify before the House Capital Budget Committee regarding the need for additional state funds for school construction (SCAP).

After the students’ completed their testimony, Representative Steve Tharinger and others came out to congratulate them.   Typically, only adults come to testify on these bills.   When students began their testimonies, the House committee members stopped their electronic deceives and listened more attentively.

“We were told the student testimonies made a difference and may have made an impact in moving the bill forward with more steam,” said Helpenstell.  “Please thank these students for sacrificing their day off Monday to make a difference for not only Port Angeles School District, but every school in the State of Washington!”

A short video for all to hear and see testimony has been provided by student leaders: https://youtu.be/Q9os9cgchHI
