The Port Angeles Area

Port Angeles, Washington is located on the northern end of the Olympic Peninsula, about 80 miles west of Seattle.  Victoria, British Columbia is 16 miles north across the Strait of Juan de Fuca.  Port Angeles serves as the headquarters community for Olympic National Park.

The climate in Port Angeles is mild.  Snow is abundant in the nearby mountains, but rare in the lowlands.  The area averages 20-24 inches of rainfall per year.  Major industries are timber, fishing, shipping, and tourism.

Port Angeles is the largest community on the North Olympic Peninsula.  As the county seat, it offers a wide range of services in the commercial, professional, legal, and medical fields.

Port Angeles schools enjoy strong community support.  The community also supports a community college, a library system, a symphony orchestra, and several other music and drama groups.  The Port Angeles area offers a unique combination of recreational and professional opportunities, and provides a stimulating living environment.

The School District

The Port Angeles School District serves a population of about 25,000 people, in an area of approximately 330 square miles.  A major portion of the district is located within the boundaries of Olympic National Park.

Total enrollment in the district is approximately 4,500 students.  The District employs over 300 certificated staff members and more than 200 classified staff.  Students attend school for 175 days— scheduled from September to June. 

The district is organized into three levels, with the elementary schools serving students in kindergarten through grade 5, middle schools serving grades 6-8, and the high school serving students in grades 9-12.
