Data Dashboards for School Directors, a Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) publication, describes a data dashboard as “a tool for viewing and analyzing student achievement and performance data. Key data for monitoring student achievement and directing policy level decisions is presented in a series of charts and graphs or ‘gauges’ much like a car’s dashboard displays.”
During the past several years, the Port Angeles School District has been designing a data dashboard for board use in gauging the performance of the district's system of schools. The staff at the Center for Educational Effectiveness and Eyes on Performance has been advising, designing and coaching the district leadership team for several years in the use of data dashboards.
