Special Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Directors of the Port Angeles School District No. 121 met in special session at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2003, in the Raymond Carver Room of the Port Angeles Public Library. Proper notification of the meeting was made according to law. In attendance were Mr. Hinds, Mrs. Kelly, Mr. McClain, Mrs. Schreiber, and Superintendent Cohn.
COMMUNITY FORUM
The purpose of the meeting was to conduct a Community Forum on school improvement. The forum was facilitated by Dr. Tony Wagner, co-director of the Change Leadership Group (CLG) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a frequent speaker and widely published author on education issues. Dr. Wagner began with a PowerPointŪ presentation on the "reinvention" of America's schools. Following this presentation, Dr. Wagner facilitated small group discussions regarding the challenges to excellent education for all. Participants were asked to consider the strengths of the Port Angeles School District, possible areas of improvement, and suggestions for changes that would make a difference in students' learning.
Results of the conversations will be compiled and reported to the community, and the data will help the district prepare for strategic planning this spring.
