Enrollment Report and Outlook
The district concluded 2007-08 with an annual average FTE (Full-Time Equivalent), not including North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center or Running Start students, of 3,930.0. This is 103.4 FTE students less than last year. Business services projected a reduction of 90 FTE for 2007-08, or 3,943 FTE. The actual enrollment decline was 13 FTE greater than projected.
Running Start enrollment declined from 77.3 to 73.7 FTE, a drop of 3.5 FTE from May. The final average for Running Start students is 85.2 FTE, 14.8 below the 100 FTE budgeted.
- Grades K-6 enrollment is at 1,986.8 FTE (7.2 FTE greater than last month), and averaged 1,972.3 FTE for the year (1.3 FTE more than budgeted).
- Grades 7-8 enrollment is at 621.7 FTE (4.3 FTE fewer than last month), and averaged 619.9 FTE for the year (2.1 fewer than budgeted).
- Grades 9-12 enrollment is at 1,279.3 FTE (8.5 fewer than last month), and averaged 1,337.8 FTE (12.2 FTE fewer than budget).
- North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center enrollment is at 140.4 FTE (the same FTE as reported last month), and averaged 146.3 FTE for the year (20.3 FTE more than budget).
- Running Start enrolled 101 students for a total of 73.7 FTE (3.5 FTE fewer than last month), and averaged 85.2 FTE for the year (14.8 FTE fewer than budgeted).
- Parents as Partners have 13 students enrolled for 11.9 FTE (0.8 FTE fewer than last month), and averaged 11.4 FTE for the year (4.4 FTE greater than budgeted). The Parents as Partners enrollment is included in the K-6 and 7-8 enrollment above.
This was the first year enrollment reports included the "super FTE" for students attending both high school and the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center. The super FTE had a positive impact on grades 9-12 enrollment, adding 26.4 FTE to Port Angeles High School and 5.4 FTE to Lincoln High School.
The Port Angeles School District enrollment projections for 2006 through 2012 are based on the historical number of students moving from grade to grade each year, and assume kindergarten classes of 290 children.
